About the Meeting

For over a decade, NCI’s Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences has fielded nationally-representative surveys of health care providers to examine cancer control knowledge, attitudes, recommendations, policies, and practices from the provider perspective. From 1999-2009, DCCPS sponsored national provider surveys on colorectal cancer screening (1999-2000); genetic testing (1999-2000); primary care physicians’ recommendations and practices for breast, cervical, colorectal, and lung cancer screening (2006-2007); energy balance-related care among primary care physicians (2008); and cancer survivorship (2009). DCCPS intends to move forward several new national provider surveys over the next several years. Prior to implementing a new survey, however, the Division wishes to obtain external input on its Provider Survey Initiative by asking a small group of experts to review what has been accomplished to date, respond to a set of evaluation questions, and participate in a one-day meeting at which prior activities and future plans for the initiative will be discussed.

Your role as a member of the expert panel will be to review a set of documentation related to the five completed provider surveys; provide written responses to a set of evaluation questions; participate in one or two conference calls with the panel’s facilitator, Ms. Sarah Greene, M.P.H., and attend a one-day meeting of the panel and NCI staff in Rockville, MD.

A tentative timeline for these activities is as follows:

  • January 27, 2012: Evaluation notebooks mailed to expert panel members
  • March 1, 2012: Expert panel members to send their written responses to evaluation questions to Ms. Sarah Greene, panel facilitator
  • Late March 2012: One-hour pre-meeting conference call with Ms. Sarah Greene
  • April 20, 2012: In-person meeting of the panel and NCI staff in Rockville, MD
  • May 2012: One-hour post-meeting conference call with Ms. Sarah Greene
