The National Cancer Institute's Center for Cancer Research is pleased to present Cancer Genetics and Genomics: A Workshop for Oncology Nurses, an educational program designed for oncology nurses with a limited knowledge base in genetics and genomics. The 2-day course will be held May 2–3, 2007, at the following location:

This activity has been approved for 16.7 contact hours by the Maryland Nurses Association, which is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. Attendance at both days is required to receive contact hours. Partial credit will not be awarded.

Session Topics Include:

Basic concepts in genetics and genomics; relevance of genetics and genomics to oncology nursing practice; ethical, legal, and social implications of genetics and genomics; genetic information and cancer screening, diagnosis, and tumor characterization; targeted cancer therapy; pharmacogenetics; genetic technology; genetic/genomic resources; behavioral outcomes associated with genetic information; performing an assessment from a genetics perspective; and the role of the nurse in cancer genetics.
